The Otago Medical Research Foundation supports emerging researchers through Summer Research Scholarships and essential Annual Grants. With the help of community and business support, we fund innovative projects that advance medical knowledge and improve lives.
Invest in a Summer Student
OMRF Summer Research Scholarships provide $7,000 to individual students to undertake a ten-week project over the summer. These student summer research projects are supervised by senior researchers and run for 10 weeks. These often lead to research and teaching careers for the students, and the projects contribute knowledge to the field. These scholarships are competitive, with many more students applying than it is possible to fund. The applications are assessed by the Foundation’s Scientific Committee so only the very best are chosen.
See some of the exciting projects our summer research students have undertaken in recent years and contact us if you are interested in funding, or co-funding a scholarship. You will be invited to an event towards the end of the project to meet the students, their supervisors and funders. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet the students as they reflect on their scholarship experience.
Invest in an Annual Grant
The Otago Medical Research Foundation supports research into all spectrums of medical research. From cancer to heart disease, asthma, rheumatic diseases, chronic kidney disease, food technology, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease, tuberculosis, diabetes, sleeping disorders, genetics, and meningitis - to name a few - our Annual Grant round attracts incredibly high quality applications each year.
