A reminder of just how precious life is...

Sometimes the value of joining together at various Otago Medical Research Foundation functions and the work launched as a result of the generosity of our members and supporters can be lost in the hurly-burly of daily life.
A reminder of just how precious life is and the irrefutable benefits of medical research and its outcomes can be seen below. This story was sent to Director of Development Steve Davie by one of our long-standing annual dinner attendees:
Steve
I wanted to share with you an experience that I had earlier this year and the positive outcome from, what one could call, a twist of fate.
As you know we are keen supporters of the Otago Medical Research Foundation through A Night to Remember. It’s a great cause and a worthy event which we have had some wonderful nights at. This year’s dinner was no exception. The quality of the food and wine together with the entertainment meant a great night out for myself and my team.
You may or may not recall that I was a recipient of one of the raffle draws. I won a skin check up from the Skin Surgery Centre which I duly passed onto my daughter. Little did I know how important this was going to be.
My daughter went to have a check-up and it was discovered that she had Melanoma. Fortunately, it was stage zero and Clark level 1, so was the lowest form of Melanoma as I understand it. Frightening for her and her husband and our family. She is a sun lover no more and is going to have to be pretty careful!
It has been some time since this occurred (March 2016) but she has recovered. So it is very personal to me that we support this Foundation.
Not only because of my daughter’s recent experience, but also I have seen cancer and other diseases beset my clients too many times. The valuable research that the Foundation is providing is greatly appreciated and I look forward to supporting it even more into the future.
And thank you for your efforts!
