Otago’s record against the Lions is the best of any of the provinces and the lunch will acknowledge that by bringing together as many players as possible from the successful 1950, ’59, ’66 and ’93 teams as our guests. The gathering will be the opportunity to showcase the matches in question and to celebrate the successes of those years.
A number of players from the 1959 and 1966 teams will be in attendance with a greater representation from the ’93 side. There will also be a tribute to Ron Elvidge, who captained Otago in the 1950 match and who is the oldest living All Black.
Josh Kronfeld, a powerful force in the 37-24 victory over the 1993 tourists, will speak on behalf of all players.
