C'Mon Otago - a successful debut season!

02/11/2015

The Otago rugby team’s strong showing in this year’s ITM Cup helped the Foundation establish an additional scholarship in the 2015/2016 allocation.

Otago scored more points (360) and more tries (47) than any other team in the competition and proved a worthy Championship semi-finalist. C’mon OTAGO 2015 members paid $1 for every point Otago scored during the year, up to a maximum of $350.

Net funds raised through the C’mon OTAGO 2015 campaign – just over $5,000 – will allow Sophie Gandhi to investigate the communication of heart cells in an effort to determine if some are better at working than others after a cardiac arrest. If that is seen as the case, those cells may well be able to be induced to take over from those compromised as a result of the heart attack.

It’s a great outcome from the first year of the concept.

Congratulations to the winners of the ticket and hospitality packages to next year’s All Blacks vs Wales test in Dunedin – Peter Mathewson (Opus International Consultants), Sharon Hyndman (Metro Realty), Peter & Paula Anstey (Progressive Plastics), John Burke and Rowan Ellis (Body Synergy).

And congratulations to Trevor Hastie, whose name was drawn as the winner of the naming rights to the scholarship. Trevor has requested the scholarship carry the name of: International Freight Logistics NZ Ltd of which he is a director.
