Having competed in various races since 2012 – including the Marathon de Paris (2010), Great Wall of China Marathon (2012) and Leadville 50 Mountain bike race (2015) – Sarah qualified for the world championship in January. This will be her first experience representing New Zealand.
In the age-group teams’ race, which comprises a 10km run, 40km bike and 5km run, Sarah is the only Dunedin athlete in the New Zealand squad and she’ll be up against competitors from 40 other countries.
Her lead-up to the race has included a grueling training regime which she has managed to juggle around her career as a criminal barrister, voluntary commitments and personal life, which she admits have tested her time management skills.
Now that the hard months of training are over, Sarah is looking forward to soaking up the atmosphere at the race and proudly wearing her New Zealand uniform.
The Otago Medical Research Foundation congratulates Sarah on her dedication and wishes her all the best for Aviles on the 5th June. We look forward to hearing how she goes on the world stage!
